BUT WHAT IS CBN?
It all starts with CBGA
CBGA (cannabigerolic acid) is the central precursor or "mother molecule" of the main cannabinoids.
The plant, through specific enzymes, transforms CBGA into different cannabinoid acids such as CBDA, THCA and CBCA.
From Seed to CBD
CBN (cannabinol) is a non-psychoactive derivative of THC, formed when the latter is exposed to heat and oxygen (process of oxidation and decarboxylation).
THC, in turn, results from the thermal conversion of THCA, which the plant naturally produces between 90 and 120 days after germination, from seed to harvest.
WHAT DO SCIENTIFIC STUDIES SAY?
📌 IMPORTANT NOTE
These results are preliminary, observed in animal or cellular models. Research in humans is still limited.
Products containing CBN are not medicines and should not be used to diagnose, treat, or cure diseases.
😌 Psychoactivity and safety
Despite being derived from THC, CBN has a very weak affinity for CB1 receptors and does not cause euphoric effects at commonly studied doses.
Human studies report good tolerability and an absence of relevant adverse effects.
😴 Sleep and rest
Preclinical studies indicate that CBN can increase total sleep time, including NREM and REM stages.
The described effect is biphasic: a short initial period of increased wakefulness followed by deeper and longer-lasting sleep.
Part of this effect is attributed to the active metabolite 11-hydroxy-CBN, which shows mild interaction with CB1 receptors.
💥 Pain and Pain Perception
In animal models, CBN has been shown to reduce pain sensitivity, especially in contexts of visceral and neuropathic pain.
Human clinical trials have not confirmed consistent benefits, and the evidence remains inconclusive.
🧠 Neuroprotection
In cell studies related to Alzheimer's, CBN reduced oxidative stress and helped preserve neurons exposed to damage.
The results are promising, but limited to laboratory models.
🧬 Antitumor activity
In the lab, CBN inhibited the growth of multiple myeloma cells and reduced tumours in animal models.
These are initial results, which require confirmation in clinical studies.
